Psychotherapy

Although I have trained in different modalities of therapy, and I am able and comfortable to use a range of therapeutic approaches, a substantial amount of my work is based on the use of EMDR therapy (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing). Please follow the link to the UK and Ireland EMDR Association for further information on this type of therapy. My clinical work is also informed by attachment theory, in other words, the effects of early life attachment and how it impacts on emotional functioning even decades later in one's life.

EMDR Supervision

I am an experienced Europe Approved EMDR Consultant and Clinical Supervisor. My 23 years experience as an NHS Consultant Psychiatrist and as the Head of the Family Trauma Service at my NHS Service has exposed me to extremely complex cases. It also helped me to greatly develop my teaching and supervising skills.

I have expertise in supervising complex cases in children and adults, where my skills resulting from my dual training as a psychiatrist and psychotherapist are usually required for a comprehensive perspective on risk management and broad clinical understanding.

I have substantial experience in providing clinical supervision in EMDR therapy for individuals, groups and teams in different organisations. Supervision for organisations usually take place on-site. I have experience in providing Skype supervision, if supervisee lives out of London.

EMDR Clinical Supervision is an extremely rewarding aspect of my work. I thoroughly enjoy helping therapists who have only recently trained in EMDR to:

  • develop their skills in EMDR.
  • integrate EMDR into their existing clinical / theoretical model of work.
  • gain confidence and progress along the pathway to become EMDR Accredited Practitioners or EMDR Consultant.

Psychological Interventions to Medical Doctors in the Aftermath of Professional Negative Events

I have gained a substantial amount of experience in recent years in helping medical doctors colleagues suffering from anxiety, depression and Post Traumatic Stress Disorders following negative professionals events. These include suicide of patients, Coroners' inquests, GMC investigations, organizational bullying or just increased unrealistic expectations resulting in emotional suffering.

Teaching and Supervision of Child Psychiatry / Psychiatry to Organisations Training Psychotherapists

Due to my experience in working in the interface of Pschotherapy and psychiatry in children and adults, I have been invited to provide teaching, consultation and supervision to different organisations offering psychotherapy services / training in psychotherapy in London (please see Current Activities).
